The good old days?

As part of their inquiry Group 1 compared how cultural diversity was reflected in Auckland fifty years ago with today. Which do you think would be the better time to live?

Auckland is a culturally diverse city that has changed a lot in the past fifty years.
Both time periods had different ethnicities living in the city. Fifty years ago there were mostly Europeans and a few Maori people living in the city. Now in 2014 there are many cultures including Asia, Pacific, Middle Eastern, Americans and Europeans.

Both time periods had entertainment available for Aucklanders. Fifty years ago there was the Easter Show, Guy Fawkes Day and the movies. Today there are many cultural festivals like Chinese New Year and Diwali.

Restaurants in Auckland have changed a lot in fifty years. In the olden days there weren't many cultural restaurants and the food available was mainly meat, vegetables and rice. Today we have many cultural restaurants serving food from all over the world.

Some people think that life was simpler as there were not many choices of things to do however some people think it was boring and they prefer Auckland today because there are more things to do because of the greater number of cultures who live here. We think that Auckland is a better city because of it being more culturally diverse than fifty years ago
