Which dog is best?

As part of reading the Loraxes compared two breeds of dog to see which would make the better pet. Here is an example of one of their comparisons by Mahia and Riya. The girls worked collaboratively on Google Docs to produce their comparison.

Greyhounds and Pomeranians

If you or your friends are thinking of getting a dog as a pet, you will be wondering what breed of dog to choose?

Two choices of breeds available as pets are greyhounds and Pomeranians. Most dogs have the same needs and requirements. However there can be some differences that may affect your decision on which breed would make the best pet. For instance all dogs require food and water, however greyhounds need to have a raised feeding bowl because they are so tall and Pomeranians need a ground bowl because they are short.

Both breeds need exercising, Greyhounds only need short walks because they are sprinters and Pomeranians also don’t need long walks because of their small legs.

Both breeds need care and attention; greyhounds need a warm winter coat and a raincoat for wet weather. On the other hand Pomeranians love to be around their owners and can be very protective.

Both breeds need vet visits; greyhounds don’t have many health issues so only see the vet when they are sick.  Where as Pomeranians may have a genetic disease, which causes their skin to turn black and lose their hair.

Both breeds are kept as pets, greyhounds are good with children and don’t bark too much. Where as Pomeranians are typically very friendly, playful and lively.

We believe that the best breed of dog for a pet is a greyhound because they do not need to go to the vet too often, they do not bark a lot and the last reason is that they only need short walks.
